For rowers
Everything you do in a normal week at the club, in the order you do it. Every button name below is exactly what appears on screen.
Joining your club
You need a free account and your club’s join code. Any member of the club has the code, and it is shown in the app on the Club tab and under your profile.
Open Crew Wise — in your browser or on your phone — and tap Create an account.
Under Which of these are you? tap I row or I cox. It only shapes what the app offers you first, and you can change it later.
Fill in Full name, Email and a Password of at least 8 characters, then tap Create account. Use the name people at the club know you by — it is what appears on crew lists and in chat.
If the screen says Account made — now confirm your email, open the email from Crew Wise and tap the link, then come back and tap I’ve confirmed it — sign in.
Tap I have a join code, type the code into Club join code and tap Join. Capitals, spaces and dashes do not matter, and a 0 typed as an O is forgiven.
No code? On the join screen tap I don’t have a code and type your club’s name under Find your club — every New Zealand club is listed, and it tells you whether the club is on Crew Wise yet. If a code fails, it has almost certainly been changed: ask an administrator for the current one.

Setting your profile so the right boats come first
This is the five minutes that makes the app useful. Crew Wise matches boats to you using your weight, grade and side — other members never see your weight or height, and your coach sees it only where it is needed to pick crews.
Open More→Your profile and scroll to Details.
Fill in Weight (kg), Height (cm) and Year of birth. Your year of birth is what switches on the under-18 safeguards in messaging.
Set Gender — it decides which grade chat you are in and which boats are set aside for you — and Your grade. Not sure? Leave it on Novice; a coach can change it.
If you steer, switch I cox to Yes, I’m a coxswain. Coxswains are offered first whenever a coxed boat is signed out. You can still row too.
Add an Emergency contact, then tap Save profile.

Taking a boat out
On Home tap Take a boat out. The caption reminds you what it is matching against: your weight, height, grade and squad.
Fits you lists the free boats that suit your grade, weight and side. Tap one to start the sign-out. Also free — outside your match lists the rest with the one reason each does not fit; tapping those opens the boat’s details instead, so you can decide with a coach.
Under Who’s in the boat there is one box per seat in real rowing order — Stroke first, down to Bow. Start typing and members appear. Only Stroke must be named; leave a seat empty if it is not filled.
On a coxed boat (4x+, 4+, 8+) fill the Coxswain box — the club’s registered coxswains are offered before you type anything. Coach is optional and starts with your squad’s coach if one is set.
Pick an Expected duration: 30 min, 45 min, 60 min or 90 min. This is what due back and overdue are measured against, so be honest rather than generous.
Add Notes if the next crew should know something, then tap Continue. Take any StrokeCoach or CoxBox off the shelf on the next step, check the Ready to go block and tap Confirm Sign Out.
Continue is greyed out? Stroke must be named, and on a 4x+, 4+ or 8+ the Coxswain box must be filled too.

Bringing it back
One question decides everything: how did the boat come back? Answer honestly — only Out of order takes a boat off the rack.
Tap Return on Home, or next to the boat on Fleet, or Return this boat on its page.
Answer How did the boat come back? — Good (nothing to report), Needs some attention (something for the boatman that does not stop anyone rowing; the boat stays available) or Out of order (off the available list on every device until an administrator marks the repair done, and the club is emailed straight away).
Under Describe what happened, say what and where. Cracked rib under 4 seat — needs the boatman is worth far more than nothing.
Enter the Distance rowed (km) — this feeds the club boards, monthly goals and your own kilometres — add any notes and tap Confirm Return.

Booking a boat ahead
Open Club→Bookings→Book a boat.
Pick the Boat, the Day, a Start time and For how long (1 h, 1.5 h, 2 h), plus an optional note such as the crew name.
Tap Book {boat} — {day} {time}. If someone already has it, the app says who and until when.
When the time comes, Home says Your booking is ready — tap to sign out and the sign-out opens with the boat, duration and your name already in. If you see Coaches and admins can book, your club has limited bookings — ask a coach to hold one in your name.
Replying to activities
Reply straight from Home or Club→Schedule with Going, Maybe or Can’t make it. You can change your reply at any time. Tap the activity itself for the description, a location card that opens in Maps, an optional note (Running 10 minutes late…), the boats assigned for the day and who else is coming.
On the Club plan, Add to my calendar puts the club’s activities into your own phone calendar.

Using the StrokeCoach Club plan
Sign the boat out as usual, then tap Stroke coach on Home.
Under Which boat are you in? your signed-out boat is at the top, marked Signed out to you — the row saves to this outing.
Choose Start on first stroke or Start now, Night — black or Day — white, and On the map (your club can see where you are while you row) or Keep it private.
Tap Arm the stroke coach and allow location the first time. Turn the phone sideways once you are moving and the split fills the screen.
Lap marks an interval, MAP switches to your route, Finish ends the row. Then tap Save to this outing so the distance, speeds and route become part of the boat’s logbook entry.
No split or distance? It comes from GPS. Allow location for Crew Wise, and give the phone half a minute in the open — it cannot get a fix indoors or in a case that blocks the signal.
Your rowing and the club boards
More→Your profile shows your outings, kilometres, hours and boats, your favourite boat and your longest row. Club→Club boards adds the club-wide picture on the Club plan: together this year, the kilometres board, attendance champions, early birds on the water before 7am, the most popular shell, and sweep against sculling hours. Only completed outings count — nothing is estimated.
